On the Internet, Teens Lead the Way

October 23rd, 2008 Posted in Cyber News, Teen Issues

It seems hard to believe that my first website is only four years old, and that I didn’t even have a computer in my house until nearly ten years ago. Every time I think of how the Internet, the home computer, and technology have become such an important part of our lives, I am always taken aback by realization that all of this is still relatively new.

The pace of technology in the last 20 years has been relentless, but is this the result of constantly improving products and services? Partly. Is this the result of mountains of money that are driving this market forward? Sometimes. Is it possible that this world-changing trend has teens to thank?

According to the last PEW/Internet study of Teens and Technology, it’s the kids who are making technology cool:

  • 81% of teen internet users play games online.
  • 76% get news online.
  • 43% have made purchases online.
  • 31% use the internet to get health information.
