Depends on the kids, but I certainly believe sex and drugs are more accessible online than on TV. I believe the sexuality depicted on TV can be subtler. I also see other forms of sexuality online (aside from porn) can be pervasive. Social networking (facebook, myspace, etc.) can be filled with photos and verbiage that is so revealing sexually.
Either way, I like what U.S. Department of Justice said about this in 1996: “Never before in the history of telecommunications media in the United States has so much indecent (and obscene) material been so easily accessible by so many minors in so many American homes with so few restrictions.”

As always, your insights are always welcome. An especially good point about social networking sites. Not too much blatant sex and drugs on the sites themselves, but the users can be less-than-shy. Of course this is also a collision of young adults and minor teens. An awkward time, to be sure.

It’s amazing the leaps and bounds by which the level of sex, violence and drugs has been permitted on network television. It is not uncommon to see a female in lingerie in the 9 o’clock hour of network programming. But however bad you think that is for little eyes, the internet is 10x worse – and has no schedule.
