The MySpace Suicide: On The Defensive
Of course, there are two sides to every story. That certainly holds true for what has become known as the MySpace Suicide case.
On the one hand, the prosecuting attorney and the family of the victim, Megan Meier, maintain that Megan was the victim of deliberate, planned, personal attacks by Lori Drew, Drew’s assistant, and Drew’s daughter. Although THIS IS NOT A MURDER CASE - Lori Drew is being tried for fraud resulting from her use of her computer to perpetuate the attacks on Megan, using the false identity of “Josh Evans” - what is Drew’s connection to the girl, and what is Drew’s explanation regarding the events that eventually lead to Megan’s lonely suicide in her bedroom closet?
Drew’s daughter, Sarah, and Megan had been friends since fourth grade, and the two families lived just down the street from one another. The young girls had been friends for years, but their relationship - as happens with many teens as they grow older - became strained and erratic as the girls matured and left elementary school behind.
Therefore, Lori Drew had known Megan for years as a pal of her daughter and another kid in the neighborhood. In fact, Megan and Sarah were so close as children that the Drew’s had asked Megan along on many family outings. During such occasions two mothers spoke at length about Megan’s depression and ADD, and Lori Drew was even trusted to make sure that Megan took her medication at the proper time.
When TIna Meier moved Megan from the public school she attended with Sarah Drew to a private, Catholic school due to excessive teasing and taunting, Meier reports that Lori Drew was not happy with her decision.
But was Drew so upset that she would plan to attack the young girl? Find out more as we continue in the next post with Lori Drew’s plea of not guilty.
