2008 - Top 10 Best Books for Young Adults
Everyone loves a good book - especially teens. A great novel is an escape, brain candy if you will.
So what books are the talk of the school yard these days?
The Young Adult Library Services Association took a poll and has posted it’s Teens’ Top Ten list. Think of it as a ”teen choice awards” for books. Teenagers were asked nominate and choose their favorite books of the year. Nominators were members of teen book groups in fifteen school and public libraries around the country.
More than 8,000 teens have spoken — and here now are their top picks for 2008:
-
Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer
-
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling
-
Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
-
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
-
Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports by James Patterson
-
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
-
The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray
-
Extras by Scott Westerfeld
-
Before I Die by Jenny Downham
-
Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson
You can also check out YALSA’s website to see top booklists from previous years. They also have a great teen reading section. It’s a great resource, especially for parents who help pick out “free reading” books for their kids.
Books. I guess they’re not extinct after all.
