What is Twitter anyway? Well for those of you who have been living under a rock, Twitter is “the next” big thing. It is huge! It’s a free social networking site just like Facebook or Youtube, but how it works is you can follow pretty much anyone who has an account. This includes famous people like Jamie Oliver - I use Jamie cause I love cooking =), Britney Spears, Tony Robbins just to name a few. Everyone. I mean everyone has a Twitter account.

So how it works is you can send out little “tweets” made up of only 140 characters to people that are following you. So if you have 1,000 followers, all 1,000 followers from all around the world will see exactly what you want them to see. This can be extremely powerful. And a lot of big companies today even use Twitter to market their products and services.

Now like everything else, there is a right way and a wrong way to do everything. These are my strategies to make sure you are using Twitter as effectively as possible:

1. Create a profile

Make sure you fill up all the information here. Tell people about yourself, what you do and most importantly, have a nice smiley picture to show those good looks.

2. Add friends

Now there’s a few ways you can do this. The first way is to make a list of the top 5 leaders in your industry. Then go into each leaders page and add all the people in the first 5 pages of their follow list. Do this for all 5 leaders. Now repeat this process every single day. It’s a little tedious, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. Make sure you leave a little note when you add people because this increases the chance that they will follow you back.

The other way is to use programs like Tweet Elite Pro to add friends for you. Now you have to be careful because some programs don’t follow Twitter requirements and you could get your account closed down. So make sure you do your research first!

3. Best Times To Add People

This may sound a little weird but I know some people who have done some research and they say that the best time to follow people is between 1:30 to 3pm PST and 7 to 11pm PST. You get more of a response during these times. Oh, and of course all day on weekends because people are generally at home then.

4. Build Familiarity & Trust

Make sure you are making posts that educate your followers. What I mean by this is you need to be sharing your best tips and lessons when it comes to Network Marketing. There are too many people out there that try and make a sale on first contact. You need to stand out from these types of people. No one will be interested in your opportunity if they are being bombarded by 50 million ads.

5. Create Interaction

Make sure you ask direct questions to some of the people you are tweeting with. You need to build real relationships and get to know people. It’s all about networking. Also be sure to talk about normal things. Be normal and real. People will appreciate that.

6. Have An Offer

Once you have built your relationships and have offered tons of value, then go ahead and lay your best offer on the table. If you have done the work of building up the trust, then you should have no problems getting your offer snatched up.

7. Use Your Time Wisely

Don’t spend hours on Twitter. It has the potential to do that. Spend about 1 to 2 hours a day on it and that should be more than enough to get you going.

8. Use Short URLs

Since you only have 140 characters to share your knowledge with the world, you need to get into the habit of leaving short URLs from sites like TR.IM or TinyURL. It’s easy to do and it saves you a lot of space. Something I would also recommend is for you to keep a list of all your shortened URL addresses so that you can just copy and paste back into Twitter instead of converting addresses over and over again. That will save you a lot of time.

So that’s it. Follow these steps and it should make your Twitter experience a lot smoother.

Social networking for tweens?

okay so i need a list of FREE social networking sites for tweens and preteens,ya know stuff suitable for 10-13. i dont like neopets but i love myspace(but my parents are making me delete my myspace) so please list a few (or more) sites like myspace for kids my age. (im 11 but im really mature for my age)

I don’t have any sites for you, but I have to give you credit - you aren’t dissing your parents for making you take down your myspace site? You ARE mature for your age. Tell your parents to take a bow for the way they raised you.

I’d suggest that you might look at (or have your mom look at) the CyberAngels site (http://www.cyberangels.org/index.php ) and ask them for recommendations. (I can vouch for them - I volunteered for them for a while, and they’re for real.)

Lots of luck.
