Does Disney Promote Unrealistic Images for Girls?

November 30th, 2008 Posted in Teen Issues

More and more, Disney finds itself the butt of a lot of criticism.

It’s not surprising. Nowadays, parents and kids are a lot more media savvy than they used to be. Of course it is a difficult thing to see the connection between a giant-stop-at-nothing-to-rake-in-as-much-cash-as-possible corporation, and a purveyor of children’s entertainment that you can rely on to demonstrate the kind of values you’d like your kid to grow up with.

Of course, much criticism of the entertainment giant is preachy and shrill and probably doesn’t get the message across very effectively. This is a new video from the Parents for Ethical Marketing.

This hilarious video demonstrates how Disney consistently sells a sexist image through its princess heroines.
